FREE SPIRITS & BOHEMIANS

Right in the center of the Town of Woodstock, the Victorian house now lovingly referred to as Twin Gables was built in the 1880s as a private home on Tinker Street. It was established as a Boutique Hotel in 1926, when artists Mr. & Mrs. Alfred Daiber (of Brooklyn, NY) purchased the 19th-century home at the height of Woodstock's first flowering as a center for creative people.

It was an unprecedented time in Woodstock’s history — the beginning of the Byrdcliffe Arts Colony — which served as a Utopian artists’ community, attracting free spirits and bohemians from around the world.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT

We acknowledge Twin Gables was built upon Lenape ancestral land. As settlers on their indigenous homeland,  we have a duty to recognize the Lenape nation as the original stewards of Woodstock and beyond. It is our hope that this land acknowledgment will help empower First Nation voices and inspire others in the community to pursue a stronger, more inclusive, and equitable future for our country. We seek to educate ourselves while contributing to the Lenape peoples by raising awareness and learning how to be a better ally against continued colonization.
