A Guide To The Five Best Music Venues Near Woodstock, NY

Updated: Dec 12, 2022

Even though Woodstock has long been regarded as an artistic colony (painters, sculptors, and authors all thrive here), it was music that first put our town on the map of the globe. The concert took place in the woods near our lovely town in the Catskill Mountains. Woodstock was the source of inspiration for that festival, and the town continues to inspire musicians today. And, even though some hotels in Woodstock were forced to close during the pandemic as the town went quiet, live concerts are making a rousing resurgence this summer. Musicians are excited to perform in front of an audience, and audiences are equally excited to hear live music.

So, as the days become longer and the nights become warmer, take advantage of the opportunity to visit some of our favorite Woodstock music venues in the Hudson Valley. To begin with, there are:

The Bearsville Theater :

This historic venue has recently had a complete renovation and is now hosting a dinner series that combines food and music – what could be more perfect? Bearsville is dedicated to the creation of ground-breaking and unique music, and the band wishes to return to the days when artists such as Albert Grossman and Todd Rundgren were reshaping the music scene. After enjoying your stay at an art-inspired bed and breakfast at Twin Gables Guest House, Don't forget to stop by the "Made in Woodstock" mural and see how many musicians you can recognize.

The Colony Ballroom Near Woodstock New York hotels :

"The Smartest Rendezvous in the Catskills" is the slogan for the Colony Ballroom, which has set the bar high for what is sure to be an exciting evening. Fortunately, the performances at this renovated theater, which was erected in 1929, are top-notch. Because the music at the Colony ranges from folk to hard-rocking rock and roll, a night at the Colony in Woodstock will be remembered long after the final encore has been played. They also serve pub-style meals, so bring your friends along and enjoy a night of live music while you eat. In addition, we are all looking forward to the return of the summer beer garden, which will feature picnic tables, sunshine, music, and, of course, beer, among other things. It is the essence of what summer is all about.

Every Monday night is Open Mike, which means you never know who you could run into, but in a town where Bob Dylan once roamed about with his guitar, you're unlikely to be disappointed if you go. Be ready to find a place to stay overnight in Woodstock, NY, and have the best time of your life.

Maverick Concerts:

These concerts are out of the ordinary. For more than a century, taking in a concert in this magnificent concert hall has been a highlight for visitors of nearby hotels in Woodstock, NY looking to get a taste of authentic Woodstock tradition. With a commitment to musical excellence, Maverick Concert has been enchanting audiences since 1916, performing anything from chamber music to modern melodies. Fortunately, the present board is committed to preserving this magnificent, acoustically unique performance hall, but don't let the summer pass you by without spending some time here.

Levon Helm Studios, Woodstock:

As a founding member of The Band at Big Pink in Saugerties in the 1960s, Levon Helm has been instrumental in bringing the most cutting-edge and talented musicians to Woodstock ever since. The popular Midnight Rambles (which usually begin at 8 or 9 p.m.) that he used to host, remain a cherished tradition more than a decade after his death. This intimate setting, which was originally a part of Levon's home, is tucked away along Plochman Lane in a quiet neighborhood. Amy Helm, Levon Helm's daughter, is the driving force behind the studio's continued success, as evidenced by her frequent appearances on stage.

The Woodstock Music Shop:

OK, so this isn't a music venue, but it is a pretty cool facility that celebrates everything music-related – including an incredible collection of vinyl recordings as well as instruments – and is well worth seeing. Music memorabilia and used instruments are also on display, making this a must-see stop for every visitor of hotels in Woodstock.
