One of our favorite musicals is Les Miserables and when we rehabbed the Twin Gables inn, we decided to pay homage to the song Castle on a Cloud. We created a sky scene with white, fluffy clouds and stars in the back hallway, which was previously one of the most depressing spots in the old Victorian house.

{process}
Our Junior Designer, Chelsea, first painted the walls and the ceiling in Annie Sloan Louis Blue. Next she created her own cardboard stencil for the star pattern and hand drew the cloud outline with a foam brush. Both sky shapes were then painted in Annie Sloan Pure White.
{after}
When you paint both the walls and the ceiling in the same color, it creates an entire cohesive space without a visual or linear break and it envelops you in the aesthetic. Chelsea even painted the ductwork and pipes so everything was monochromatic. This was key to creating a whimsical sky vibe in the hallway.
We hope when our team and our guests enter our boutique hotel in Woodstock, they feel transported to a happy place, just like young Cosette was imagining when she sang her melancholy, hopeful song.
